NES LERPA

GLAZED TERRACOTTA PANEL by NES LERPA – cm. 80×160 – 2011

Lerpa’s career started as early as 19 years of age, in 1961, with his first solo show at Henning Larsen’s gallery. Since then his works have been regularly on display both in his own motherland and abroad. In 1975 he first came to Italy, where he has held almost as many exhibitions as in native Denmark. The encounter with Liguria and Ceramiche San Giorgio ceramic workshop was especially meaningful and he soon started to create vases, plates and informal sculptures by which he gave a tridimensional life to his beloved colours. His works mirror the artist’s cosmopolitan nature: he is real world wanderer who has lived in virtually all of Europe, in China and India. The experiences he gathered as a traveller inspire and give ever new life and visionary power to his art. His works are internationally known, and in 2012 he held a solo show, ‘Versicolore’, at Birch Gallery in Copenhagen.
